FORT WORTH, TX: College of the Southwest hurler Joe Blevins tossed a no-hitter against Texas Wesleyan University on Saturday. The Mustangs (13-18, 2-4 RRAC) used a pair of five-run innings to defeat the Rams (14-12, 1-2) 10-0 at LaGrave Field.
College of the Southwest opened the scoring by sending ten men to the plate in the third. Timothy Dallas ripped a leadoff single, and the Mustangs added four more singles and a pair of Texas Wesleyan errors to take a 5-0 lead.
CSW stretched that lead to 10-0 when they sent ten more men to the plate in the fourth.
That was plenty of support for Blevins who allowed just two base runners in seven innings pitched. He walked one and struck out eight Rams.
Jason Hopson (3-3) was tagged with the loss after surrendering five runs (three earned) on five hits in three innings of work.
CSW’s Jason Marin went 3-4 with a run and an RBI to lead the Mustangs’ attack.
The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Belton, TX, to take on Mary-Hardin Baylor. Game one of that doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. Monday’s contest with St. Gregory’s has been canceled.
