CEDAR HILL, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (22-10, 10-2 RRAC) suffered its first conference losses as they were swept by Northwood University (16-11, 6-2) on Sunday. The Knights held off a Texas Wesleyan rally for an 8-7 win in game one and took game two 5-3.
In game one, the Rams took a 3-0 lead in the second inning on five singles and a walk. The Knights plated two runs on a hit and two walks in the bottom of the innings.
In the third inning, Nortwood scored four runs on five hits and an error to take a 6-3 lead. They added single tallies in the fourth and fifth to stretch that margin to 8-3.
In the sixth, the Rams loaded the bases with one out, and Tara Sharp knocked a grand slam to pull Texas Wesleyan within one at 8-7. Unfortunately the rally fell short, and Northwood came away with the win.
Marie Stone (3-5) was tagged with the loss while Maddie Williams earned the win. Michelle Perez went 3-5 for the Lady Rams while Brooke McNabb, Elizabeth Brady, and Ariel Raley each had multiple hits in the contest.
In game two, the Rams led 3-1 after a Rachel Hampton home run in the second and a two run double from Hampton in the third.
In the sixth, Northwood loaded the bases with no outs after three consecutive singles. They went on to score four runs on five hits to take a 5-3 lead.
Rachel Lamont fell to 6-3 with the loss. Kayla Maddox earned the win for Northwod. Hampton finished with a 2-4 performance, adding a run and three RBI.
The Lady Rams return to action on Friday when they host Bacone College in Red River Athletic Conference action. Game one is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. at Sycamore Park.
