RAMS SWEEP WARRIORS
April 8, 2006

FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University softball team improved to 24-10 overall and 12-2 in Red River Athletic Conference play with a doubleheader sweep of Bacone College (7-20, 4-12 RRAC).  The Lady Rams took game one 9-0 and game two 6-1.

In game one, the Lady Rams handed Rachel Lamont a 6-0 lead in the first inning.  Each of the Lady Rams’ first seven hitters reached base, in an inning that was highlighted by a three-run homer from Rachel Hampton against a strong wind blowing in from left.

Texas Wesleyan made it 9-0 with an unearned tally in the third inning and a two-run homer from Hampton in the fourth.

That was plenty of support for Lamont (7-3) who allowed only a first inning bunt single and two walks, while striking out two in five innings of work.

Hampton went 2-3 with five RBI, while Ariel Raley was a prefect 3-3 at the plate for the Rams.

In game two, the Rams took a 4-0 lead when they sent nine hitters to the plate in the second inning.  Bacone got one run back in the third with an RBI double off the bat of Jessica Dean.

In the fourth, an RBI double from Marie Stone and an RBI single from Elizabeth Brady pushed the Lady Rams’ lead to 6-1.

Devin Blew improved to 7-1 on the season after scattering five hits across seven innings and striking out eight.

Hampton, Elizabeth Brady, and Brooke McNabb each went 2-3.  Marie Stone went 2-4 with 3 RBI.

The Lady Rams return to the field on Monday, when they host Southern Nazarene University at Sycamore Park.  Game one of that doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
