#23 RAMS FALL TO SOUTHERN NAZARENE
April 10, 2006

FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (24-12), ranked 23rd in the country and 5th in Region VI, was swept in a doubleheader against Southern Nazarene University (20-17), ranked 7th in Region VI.  The Crimson Storm took wins of 7-0 and 10-2.  The losses snapped the Lady Rams’ ten-game home winning streak that dated back to their season opening doubleheader against St. Edward’s.

Southern Nazarene batted around in the first inning and turned four hits and a Texas Wesleyan error into an early 4-0 lead.  The Crimson Storm added another run on two hits in the second and a pair of unearned runs in the sixth for the 7-0 final.

Meanwhile, SNU hurler Andrea Frizell shutdown the high-powered Texas Wesleyan offense.  Frizell allowed just three hits while striking out 16 in seven innings of work.

Kelly Lamont (0-1) suffered her first collegiate loss after allowing five runs (three earned) on six hits in 1.1 innings pitched.  Devin Blew tossed 5.2 strong inning of relief allowing two unearned runs on six hits while striking out five.

In game two, Frizell gave SNU a 2-0 lead with a two-run home run in the top of the first.  In the bottom of the inning, Alicia Wylie cut the deficit in half when she singled, stole second, stole third, and scored on a wild pitch.

Rachel Hampton knotted the game at two with a solo homer (her 15th of the season) in the second.  Southern Nazarene then brought Frizell back in to pitch, and the right-hander picked up where she left off.  Frizell allowed just four hits whiles striking out six in five innings of relief to earn her second win of the day.

The Crimson storm capitalized on a pair of Texas Wesleyan errors to score four runs in the top of the fifth.  They ripped three more hits including a two-run homer from ShiAnn Evett to score four more in the sixth.

Michelle Jones (4-1) suffered her first loss at Texas Wesleyan after allowing nine runs (seven earned) on eight hits in 5.2 innings of work.

The Rams return to action on Thursday when they host #17 and Red River Athletic Conference leading Houston Baptist on Thursday.  Game one of that important doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. at Sycamore Park.
