WACO, TX: Texas Wesleyan University’s Rachel Hampton was named Red River Athletic Conference Co-Player of the Week while Rachel Lamont was named Pitcher of the Week for the period of April 3-9. Hampton shared the honor with Houston Baptist’s Krissie Conner.
Hampton, a senior outfielder from Fort Worth, Texas, went 4-for-6 at the plate with two runs scored, two homers, and five RBI. She led a double-header sweep over Bacone College (OK) with a pair of homers in a 9-0 opening game win, followed by a 2-for-3 outing in the second game. Hampton, who raised her average to .398, has 14 home runs on the season and leads the nation with 55 RBIs. TWU is second in the RRAC at 12-2 with a record of 24-12 on the season.
Lamont, a junior right-hander from Springtown, Texas, hurled a complete-game one-hitter for the 9-0 shutout win over Bacone. She allowed only three base runners in the game with a pair of walks and a bunt-single in the first inning. Lamont improved to 7-2 on the season and lowered her ERA to 3.82.
Conner, a junior third baseman from Brenham, Texas, was 2-for-3 in her only official at-bats of the week, but she connected on home runs for both of her hits. Conner delivered a two-run homer in an 8-0 win over Northwood University (Texas), and she went 1-for-2 in the second game of the double-header with a walk and a three-run blast. She scored four runs, drove in five and walked twice for the Huskies. HBU is now 11-1 in the RRAC and 21-7 overall.
Other pitcher nominees included Laura Hess of HBU and Jennifer Parker of University of Texas of the Permian Basin, while Kristi Tosi of UT-Permian Basin and Jenness Wines of Northwood University (Texas) were nominated in the player category.
