RAMS BACK ON TRACK:

SWEEP SOUTHWEST
April 14, 2006

FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (26-14, 14-4 RRAC) snapped a four-game losing skid by sweeping College of the Southwest (12-22, 6-12) in a Red River Athletic Conference doubleheader at Sycamore Park on Friday.  The Rams took a 4-3 win in game one and ran away with game two 8-0.

In game one, The Mustangs got on the board in the first when Crystal Aranda roped a leadoff double and scored on a bunt single from Lea Santos.

Brooke McNabb leveled the score when she ripped her third homer of the year in the second inning, and the Rams took a 2-1 lead in the third with a triple from Jazmine Boss and an RBI single from Ariel Raley.

Texas Wesleyan made it 4-1 in the fifth with an RBI double from Raley and an RBI single from Rachel Hampton, but CSW’s Holly Bodway brought the Mustangs within one with a two-run homer in the sixth.

Michelle Jones then came on to pitch the final 1.2 innings for the Lady Rams and picked up her second save of the season after recording five strikeouts.  Devin Blew improved to 9-2 with the win.  Blew allowed three runs on six hits while striking out five in 5.1 innings pitched.

Boss, Raley, and Hampton each recorded a pair of hits for the Texas Wesleyan offense.

In game two, the Rams poured it on early.  Jazmine Boss took the first pitch in the bottom of the first over the wall in left.  After a single by Ariel Raley and a walk to Rachel Hampton, Brooke McNabb cracked her third home run in as many games to give Texas Wesleyan a 4-0 cushion.

Cristan Hogan kept the Rams scoreless over the next three innings, but in the fifth, the Rams plated four runs on two hits and three Mustang errors to end the game at 8-0.

Hogan (5-9) took the loss after allowing eight runs (six earned) on six hits in 4.1 innings pitched.  Rachel Lamont (8-4) earned the win by tossing a five inning shutout.  She allowed just two hits while striking out nine and walking none.

McNabb led the Texas Wesleyan offense by going 2-3 with 3 RBI.

The Lady Rams return to action on Saturday, April 22, when they host Northwood University in an RRAC doubleheader.  Game one is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m.
