WAXAHACHIE, TX: Things are beginning to click for the Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (21-17, 4-5 RRAC). By taking both ends of a Red River Athletic Conference doubleheader against Southwestern Assemblies of God University (18-17-1, 5-7) on Saturday, the Rams completed the three-game series sweep against the Lions. Saturday’s 9-3 and 11-3 wins also completed a 6-1 week for Texas Wesleyan.
The Rams continued to hit the ball well, collecting 19 hits in today’s doubleheader. Chris Palmer led the offense by going 4-7 on the day with a pair of doubles and 5 RBI.
In game one, the Rams plated four runs in the top of the fourth. That was enough support for Weston Wood (5-2) who worked all seven innings for the win.
In game two, the Rams used a five run fourth inning and a four run fifth to take an 11-3 lead after five. Jason Hopson (4-4) allowed three earned runs in five innings to earn the win. Caleb Thomas, Michael Talley, and Hayden Lackey combined on four scoreless innings of relief for Texas Wesleyan.
Texas Wesleyan will return to action on Monday when they travel to Austin, TX, to take on Huston-Tillotson University. Game one of that doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
