AUSTIN, TX: In a battle of Rams, the Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (21-19) was swept in a doubleheader with Huston-Tillotson University (18-16). The Rams from Austin took a 9-8 thriller in game one and prevailed 11-5 in game two.
In game one, Texas Wesleyan trailed 7-3 entering the seventh inning. In that frame, they scored five runs including a grand slam off the bat of freshman outfielder Jeremy Howard, that gave Texas Wesleyan an 8-7 lead.
Hayden Lackey (2-3) then came on seeking his fifth save of the season, but Huston-Tillotson loaded the bases with no outs. A sacrifice fly and a single from Jeremy Macklin ended the game at 9-7 favoring Huston-Tillotson.
In game two, Huston-Tillotson plated six unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on their way to the 11-5 win.
JR Phelps (1-1) suffered the loss after allowing two runs in the first inning.
Texas Wesleyan jumps right back into action tomorrow when they travel to Dallas to take on UT-Dallas. That game is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
