HOUSTON, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (29-19, 16-8) wrapped up the regular season with a doubleheader against #12 Houston Baptist University (32-8, 22-2) on Sunday. Unfortunately the Huskies took both games to complete a four-game regular season sweep. HBU won game one 4-0, and prevailed in the nightcap 4-1.
In game one, Devin Blew kept pace with HBU’s Laura Hess, allowing only single tallies in the first two innings, until the Huskies struck for two in the sixth.
Blew (10-4) took the loss after allowing four runs on nine hits in 5.2 innings of work. Hess improved to 17-4 with the complete game shutout. She allowed just one hit while striking out nine.
In game two, the Rams got plenty of base runners but could push none accoss. Texas Wesleyan stranded nine in the contest and scored their lone run in the fifth inning, when Brooke McNabb crushed her fifth home run of the season.
Michelle Jones (4-2) suffered the loss after allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits in four innings. Cheri Wood (10-2) allowed one run on seven hits and a walk while striking out eight in seven innings pitched.
McNabb and Marie Stone each went 2-4 in the loss.
The Lady Rams now await the start of the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament, which will take place in Farmer’s Branch, TX, on May 5-6.
