FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team met the defending Central Baseball League champion Fort Worth Cats for an exhibition game at LaGrave Field on Monday.  The Rams kept the game close for six innings before falling 11-1.

Prior to the contest, the Rams honored six outstanding seniors who were playing in their final game at LaGrave Field.  Travis Clifford, Shea Harrison, Jason Hopson, Zach Archer, Kent Russell, and Jeff Piaskowski have each made invaluable contributions to the Texas Wesleyan baseball program and led the team in 2006.

In the first inning, the Cats took advantage of three walks, but Texas Wesleyan starter Jordan Jones limited the damage to just one run when he induced an inning-ending double play.

The Cats made it 2-0 in the third when John Allen ripped a two-out double and scored when Matt Spencer followed with a single.  That score swelled to 4-0 in the sixth, with an RBI double from Spencer and an RBI single from Jordan Foster.

The Rams answered in the top of the seventh.  Billie Hicks drew a leadoff walk.  Josh Vander Hey then singled up the middle, and, after Chris Palmer laid down a sacrifice bunt, Antoine Cole delivered a sacrifice fly.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Cats opened the floodgates, scoring five runs on four hits and an error.  Fort Worth then added two more runs in the eighth to bring the score to 11-1.

The Cats pounded out 15 hits in the game, while the Rams, who struggled a bit with wooden bats, racked up seven hits.  Jason Diaz led the Rams at the plate by going 2-4.  Mat Spencer was a perfect 4-4 with 4 RBI for the Cats.

Jordan Jones was tagged with the loss after allowing one run on two hits in two innings of work.  Cory Walters earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief.

The Rams will return to action on Wednesday.  The 4th seeded Rams open Red River Athletic Conference Tournament action against 3rd seeded Huston-Tillotson at 4:30 p.m. in Houston, TX.
