FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan Athletic Department has announced the resignation of head volleyball coach Rick Johansen. Athletic Director Kevin Millikan will look to fill the vacancy of the nationally renowned program as quickly as possible.
Johansen leaves Texas Wesleyan after nine seasons. He ranks second in school history in both wins (188) and winning percentage (.653).
The Texas Wesleyan Volleyball program has risen to national prominence after appearing in the NAIA Elite Eight in each of the last two seasons. Overall they have made eight appearances in the national tournament and finished as high as second in 1982 and 1990.
The Lady Rams have appeared in the Red River Athletic Conference final in each of the last four seasons, winning the title in 2004 and 2005. They are coming off one of their most dominant seasons after setting school records with a 58-game winning streak and 30-match winning streak.
“We wish Rick well,” Millikan commented. “He did a great job with this program for nine seasons and helped Texas Wesleyan become a national title contender.”
Millikan went on to say, “We expect to have this position filled quickly and look forward to helping the program continue to be one of the best in the country.”
