SAN ANTONIO, TX: The third and final round of the Rattler Invitational, a 54-hole even hosted by St. Mary’s University at The Golf Club of Texas, was canceled due to rain on Tuesday. After two rounds, Texas Wesleyan University finished in a tie for 8th position.
The Rams spent eleven hours on the course to complete the first two rounds on Monday. After shooting 588 (296, 292) on the first day, Texas Wesleyan sat in a tie for 8th in the field of 17. That put the Rams just six strokes short of 6th place and gave them a comfortable lead on the only other NAIA school in the competition, Northwood (13th, 612).
“We played fairly well after struggling with putting in the first round,” said Head Coach Kevin Millikan. “We acclimated and made better reads in the afternoon and had ourselves in position to make a move today. Obviously we are disappointed with the rain, but we will just move on.”
Central Oklahoma won the tournament with a 36-hole score of 566. Northeastern’s Brad Risenhoover took the individual title with a 9-under card of 135.
The Rams were led by Reino Deetless (73, 73) and Kevin Doskocil (72, 74) who tied for 21st with scores of 146. Bronson Kalilikane shot 149 (74, 75), Mitch Hendon rebounded from a first round 78 to shoot even par in round two for a total of 150, and Justin Smith shot 150 (77, 73) to round out Texas Wesleyan’s scores.
The Rams will return to action October 30 – November 1 when they compete in the Comfort in and Suites Classic at Coffee Creek in Edmond, OK. They will also host the Junior Varsity Texas Wesleyan Invitational at Hawks Creek in Fort Worth, TX, on Tuesday, October 18.
