CEDAR HILL, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s soccer team put its untarnished conference record on the line today against rival Northwood University in Red River Athletic Conference action. However, the Knights were able to deliver Texas Wesleyan’s first conference loss of the season with a 2-0 score.
The two teams battled through a scoreless first half. The game remained scoreless until Raul Borgess scored the eventual game winner with 17:01 remaining in the contest. Northwood tacked on another goal when Omar Mareno converted on a free kick with 3:48 remaining.
“This was a good game,” said Head Coach Steve Jones. “It went back-and-forth and both teams had their opportunities. They are a good hard working team and that definitely contributed to our problems.
Texas Wesleyan falls to 6-5 overall and 4-1 in RRAC play, while Northwood improved to 8-3 and 4-1.
Texas Wesleyan will return to action on Saturday when they host the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. That game is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. on Martin Field and will be preceded by a women’s game. |
