LADY RAMS RALLY TO WIN THRILLER
October 21, 2005

FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University women’s soccer team was held scoreless for 86:41, but rallied for a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory over College of the Southwest in Red River Athletic Conference action on Saturday.

The Mustangs’ Sunny Evans scored off her own rebound with 28:55 remaining in the first half.  From there it appeared that College of the Southwest would shutout the Rams.  Texas Wesleyan had opportunities, but could not convert.

With 3:19 remaining in regulation Loren Clark finally got the Rams on the board.  Clark ripped a shot from 30 yards out that hit the top crossbar and deflected into the goal.  It was down to nail-biting time again in the overtime period when Danielle Parks received a pass from Brianna McKernon and beat the keeper on the high side from 25 yards out for the golden goal with one minute remaining.

“We had some dangerous opportunities but could not finish,” said Head Coach Steve Jones.  “Danielle took a great shot at the end.  She had tried it from a little too far out earlier, but got in close enough that time.  This was a great win over an undefeated team.”

With the win, Texas Wesleyan set a new school record for wins in a season.  The previous record was 10 set in the 2003 season.  The Lady Rams also passed College of the Southwest for second place in the RRAC standings.  The Rams improved to 11-4 overall and 4-1 in conference play.  The Mustangs fell to 7-8 and 3-1.

The Lady Rams return to action on Saturday when they host UT-Permian Basin in their final home game of the season.  The Rams need another win on Senior Day to stay in the running for the regular season conference championship.  That game is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. and will be preceded by a women’s game.
