FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s soccer team (7-6-1, 5-2 RRAC) was defeated 4-0 by UT-Permian Basin (7-4-3, 5-2) in their final regular season home game.
The Rams honored six outstanding seniors at halftime. Gerardo Avelar, Ricky Gallardo, Alfonso Govea, Rene Mercado, Jose Melendez, and Nathan Mutchler each played in their final regular season home game.
Unfortunately the Rams did not get the result they wanted. The Falcons wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. Just over six minutes into the contest, Stevie Rivera found Carlos Guillen for a strike from 30 yards out. The game went to the half with the Rams trailing 1-0.
In the second half, Rivera scored at 24:36 and again at 10:39 to give the Falcons a solid 3-0 lead. They would take on another late goal for the 4-0 final. Four goals was plenty of support for Gage Peterson who made 13 saves in goal for UT-Permian Basin.
With the loss, Texas Wesleyan fell into a tie with the Falcons at 5-2 in the conference standings.
The Rams have two more games, and the regular season conference championship is still up for grabs. They will return to action on Friday, October 28, when they travel to Waxahachie, TX, to take on Southwestern Assemblies of God University. That contest is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. |
