EDMOND, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s golf team competed in round one of the Sleep Inn and Suites Classic hosted by Oklahoma Christian University on Monday. The hosting Eagles lead the field at Oak Tree Golf Course after 18 holes.
A cold and drizzly Monday at a tough Oak Tree course led to an average score of 82.28. However, Oklahoma Christian shot a composite 303 to lead the field. The Rams shot 316 and sit in a tie for fourth with Victoria-BC and the University of British Columbia.
Bruno Buccolo of Oklahoma Christian shot a +1 73 to lead the individual scoring. Justin Smith paced Texas Wesleyan with a 77 and sits in 16th. Lance Vasquez shot a 78 and is currently just out of the top-20 in a tie for 21st. Reino Deetlefs shot 80, Dan Hahn 81, and Mitch Hendon 85 to round out the Rams card.
“We struggled a little being mentally tough and dealing with the elements on a tough golf course,” said Head Coach Kevin Millikan. “The good news is that we are only thirteen out and out top player is only four back. Scores were tough today, but we get a chance to redeem ourselves tomorrow.”
The Rams will complete their fall schedule with the final round at Oak Tree tomorrow.
