DENTON, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University volleyball team (26-3) made the short trip to Denton today for a match with Texas Woman’s University (15-18). After a hard fought match, the Rams came away with another 3-0 win (30-21, 32-30, 30-22).
The win marked the 25th in a row for Texas Wesleyan, setting a new school record. After winning five matches last week, including two over ranked opponents and tying the school record, the Lady Rams made yet another step up in the national rankings to 11th.
Texas Wesleyan started hot in game one, turning a 2-2 score to 10-3 with an 8-1 run. From there, the Pioneers played point for point with the Rams as Texas Wesleyan came away with the 30-21 win. In game two, the Rams led early, but could not pull away. The Pioneers rallied to tie the game at 24 and later took the lead at 26-25. Texas Woman’s continued to lead and was just two points from knotting the match at one when the score reached 28-27. However, the Rams regained the lead at 29-28 and pulled out a dramatic 32-30 win.
In game three, the Rams got an early lead, but led by just three at 20-17. However, the Rams closed out the match on a 10-4 run to win the deciding game 30-22.
Misty Tarbet led the Lady Rams with 15 kills while Whitney Johansen had 46 assists and Susan Taylor recorded 24 digs. Rachel Loftin added 12 kills and a game-high 9 blocks.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host John Brown University, ranked 3rd in Region VI. Senior Day festivities will also highlight that match as Rachel Loftin, Whitney Johansen, and Susan Taylor will be playing in their final regular season home game. That match is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. in the Sid Richardson Center. |
