LADY RAMS CLOSE OUT REGULAR SEASON
November 5, 2005

FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University volleyball team (27-3) closed out the regular season with a 3-1 win over John Brown University (30-7) on Saturday.

The game marked the final performance for three outstanding seniors at the Sid Richardson Center.  Susan Taylor was named RRAC and Region VI Libero of the Week four times this season and was named NAIA National Libero of the Week just last week.  She is also Texas Wesleyan’s career leader with 2,032 digs.  Whitney Johansen has been named RRAC and Region VI Setter of the Week four times this season.  Rachel Loftin will graduate as Texas Wesleyan’s career leader in kills.  Her record currently stands at 1,651 kills.

Those three outstanding players as well as the parents of all of the Lady Rams were honored prior to the start of tonight’s match.

Game one was very close early on, but a 9-2 run gave the Rams their largest lead of the game at 28-20 and they would hold on for the 30-23 win.  In game two, the Rams got rolling.  Texas Wesleyan took control with 7 unanswered points that brought the score to 14-5.  They would lead by as many as 12 on their way to the 30-19 win.

The Golden Eagles regrouped in game three.  The game went through six lead changes until the Golden Eagles took their first multi-point lead of the match at 14-12.  John Brown closed the game out with an 8-2 run for in the 30-20 win.

In game four the team’s battled through 14 ties and 6 lead changes.  The score was tied at 25, but the Lady Rams scored the final five points in succession to finish the match with a 30-25.

Misty Tarbet and Rachel Loftin each recorded 18 kills for the Rams.  Susan Taylor tallied a match-high 26 digs, and Whitney Johansen recorded a double-double with 48 assists and 14 digs.

The Lady Rams will return to action in the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament, which will take place next Friday and Saturday in Houston, TX.
