MULLINS, REID NAMED RRAC P.O.W.

WACO, TX:  Seth Mullins and Jason Reid of Texas Wesleyan University earned a share of the Red River Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week award after leading the Rams to their first conference championship last weekend.

Mullins, a freshman midfielder from Mansfield, Texas, saved his best game of the season for the RRAC championship match, and he didn’t wait long to get started. Just 31 seconds into the match, he found the back of the net for a 1-0 Rams lead over top-seeded University of Texas of the Permian Basin. Following a TWU score that made it a 2-0 game, Mullins connected on an assist from Reid for his second goal. Playing with a three-goal lead, TWU managed to hold off a UTPB rally for a 5-4 victory.

Reid, a junior defender from Kingston, Jamaica, was just as important in the Rams’ triumph. He assisted on Texas Wesleyan’s second goal and teamed up with Mullins on the third. Then, with the Falcons mounting a comeback and TWU leading 3-2, Reid booted in a goal 2:49 into the second half to provide the cushion the Rams needed. TWU entered the conference tournament as the second-seeded team.

The Rams advance to the NAIA Region VI tournament with an 11-6-1 record. They will face Southern Nazarene University (Okla.) in the semifinals at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 11.
