HUNT NAMED CO-RRAC P.O.W:

RAMS READY FOR #3 LSU SHREVEPORT
December 13, 2005

FORT WORTH, TX: Ben Hunt of Texas Wesleyan University and Mansour Mbye of University of Texas of the Permian Basin earned a share of the Red River Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honor for Dec. 5-11.

Hunt, a senior guard from Bendigo, Australia, came off the bench to lead TWU to its first conference win of the season, a 107-72 victory over Wiley College (Texas). After entering the game, he scored 22 points, all in the second half, and grabbed four rebounds while dishing out seven assists. He made 6-of-11 shots from the field including 5-of-8 from three-point range. The Rams increased their record to 3-4 on the season and 1-1 in conference play.

Mbye, a junior guard from East London, England, rallied UTPB from a 10-point second-half deficit against Southwestern Assemblies of God University (Texas), scoring 12 of his 17 points down the stretch en route to a 69-63 victory. He finished the game with 13 rebounds while connecting on 5-of-6 field goal attempts (83%) and 7-of-11 free throws. The Falcons jumped to 2-1 in the RRAC and 5-3 overall.

The Rams' win marked number 100 for head coach Terry Waldrop.  Waldrop’s career record now stands at 100 wins and 86 losses.  He reached the milestone faster than any coach in school history by getting to #100 in just over six seasons.  With one more win, he will become the third winningest coach in school history behind Elmer Hanebutt (160), and Johnny Howerton (118).

Texas Wesleyan is now set to take on LSU Shreveport tonight in the Sid Richardson Center with a scheduled tip-off of 7:30 p.m.  For the fourth time this season, the Rams are taking on a team ranked in the NAIA’s Top-25.  LSUS enters the contest ranked 3rd in the country.  Texas Wesleyan was ranked 15th in the preseason rankings but fell out of the top-25 to 35th in last week’s poll.  In their meeting earlier this season, LSUS took an 85-78 win in Shreveport, LA.
