FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (4-5) hosted 6th ranked and undefeated Oklahoma Baptist University (12-0) on Thursday. The Lady Bison came away with a 78-65 win over the Lady Rams in the Sid Richardson Center.
In their previous meeting this season, Oklahoma Baptist raced to a large first half lead and held on for a 79-66 win in Shawnee, OK. Thursday’s contest was more of the same. OBU poured it on in the early stages of the game, racing to a 24-9 lead midway through the first half. They went on to lead 39-21 at the break.
The Bison took their largest lead of the game at 58-33 with 12:29 remaining. At that point the Lady Rams came to life. Wesleyan used a 26-11 run to cut the deficit to 10 points with just over three minutes to play. Unfortunately the Bison hit 5-of-6 free throws down the stretch and held on for the 78-65 win.
Oklahoma Baptist out shot Texas Wesleyan 57%-41% and dominated the boards, taking a 42-27 margin. While the personal foul count was close (TWU 25-OBU 19), the Bison took 40 free throws, scoring 26 points while Texas Wesleyan scored just six points on 15 attempts.
Britney Helton led the Rams with 16 points while Stephanie Reder added 14 of her own. OBU’s Tabetha Eaton led all scorers with 24 points on 3-4 shooting from the field and 18-21 shooting from the charity stripe. Dilenny Castillo scored 18 and Keely Tolin finished with 11 for the Bison.
