FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (4-10, 2-2 RRAC) suffered a 96-65 loss at the hands of #12 Houston Baptist University (12-4, 4-1) on Saturday.
Houston Baptist came out firing in the first half. The Huskies jumped ahead 17-4 early on and cruised to a 50-31 halftime lead.
In the second half, the Huskies shot a blazing 71% from the field, and ran away with the 96-65 win.
For the game, Texas Wesleyan out rebounded Houston Baptist 48-38, but the Huskies shot 63% from the field while holding the Rams to just 33%.
Shawntay Anglin led the Rams with 17 points. Moneke Smallwood added 12, and Kim Gatlin finished with 10 for Texas Wesleyan. Jasmine Irving led five Huskies in double-figure scoring with a game-high 20 points.
The Lady Rams return to the Sid Richardson Center on Monday, January 15, when they host Huston-Tillotson University. That game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
