LANGSTON, OK: The Langston University women’s basketball team (16-3), ranked 19th nationally, remained unbeaten in Red River Athletic Conference play at 8-0 after defeating Texas Wesleyan University (4-11, 2-3) by a final score of 80-47.
Langston’s full-court pressure bothered the Lady Rams early on as the Lions jumped ahead 23-8 in the first eight minutes. Texas Wesleyan committed 15 turnovers in the first half that led to 20 points for the Lions, and Langston went to the locker room with a 47-21 lead.
In the second half, the Lions heated up on offense, shooting 52% in the period, and led by as many as 39 points, 80-41, on their way to the 80-47 win.
Kim Gatlin and Nastassia Brown led the Lady Rams with nine points apiece. Matayla McBath-Belvin and Latesha Calton both recorded double-doubles for Langston. McBath-Belvin finished with 12 points and 11 assists while Calton scored 11 points and brought down 15 rebounds.
Texas Wesleyan returns to action on Saturday, January 27, when they host Wiley College. That game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Sid Richardson Center. |
