RAMS RALLY PAST BULLDOGS
January 29, 2007

Box Score

HAWKINS, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (5-12, 3-4 RRAC) rallied from a 10 point deficit in the final 7:30 to take a 61-55 win over Jarvis Christian College (5-9, 3-5) on Monday.

The Lady Rams got off to a sluggish start.  Jarvis jumped ahead 10-4 and led by as many as 15, 30-15, with just under two minutes remaining in the period.  In the last two minutes, Texas Wesleyan rattled off seven unanswered points with strong inside play from Nastassia Brown who posted 10 points and 10 rebounds in the half.  That run closed the gap to 30-22 at halftime.

In the second half, Texas Wesleyan closed the gap to three points at 37-34, but Jarvis stretched that lead back to double-figures at 50-40.  From that point, the Bulldogs wilted under the Rams full court pressure.  Texas Wesleyan rallied to tie the game at 52 with 2:46 to play.  They took the lead at 56-54 and then pulled away for the 61-55 win.

The Rams held the Bulldogs to just 24% shooting in the second half while hitting at a 42% clip in the frame.  They forced 25 turnovers that led to 28 points and won the battle-of-the boards 54-48.

Texas Wesleyan was led by Brown’s 17 points and 14 rebounds.  Brittany Champion finished with eight points and 10 boards.  Jarvis’ Daiana Canaver led all scorers with 26 points to go with 10 rebounds.

The win snapped a three-game losing skid for the Rams who return to action on Thursday, February 1, when they travel to Marshall, TX, to take on Wiley College.  That game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
