STEPHENVILLE, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (0-2) suffered a season opening sweep at the hands of Brooke Saulters and the Tarleton Sate University TexAnns (2-0) on Tuesday.  Tarleton Sate took game one 12-2 and game two 8-6.

The season got started on a forgettable note for Texas Wesleyan.  The TexAnns plated a pair of runs in the first, eight in the second, and two more in the third to lead 12-0 before Ariel Raley got the Lady Rams on the board with a home run in the fourth.

Michelle Jones (0-1) took the loss after allowing six runs (4 earned) in 1.1 innings of work.  Tarleton’s Brooke Saulters (2-0) allowed two earned runs on two hits in five innings pitched to earn the win.

Lindsey Molinar led off game two with a double to right center that sparked a three-run rally.  Tarleton responded with back-to-back home runs from Brooke LaRue and Kasi Dobbs in the bottom of the second.

The two teams traded runs in the third, and Tarleton took a 6-4 lead with three runs on back-to-back home runs from Chaunteau Starry and Nicole Cone.  An RBI double from Elizabeth Brady brought the Rams within a run in the fifth, but Tarleton came back with two unearned runs in the sixth.

In the top of the seventh, Molinar drew a leadoff walk, stole second, and scored on an single from Raley.  Unfortunately Megan Shaefer retired the final two hitters in succession to end the game.

Ashley Oldham (0-1) suffered the loss after allowing six runs on 11 hits in 3.2 innings of work.  Saulters (2-0) earned her second win of the day by tossing 6.1 innings and allowing six runs on seven hits.

Brooke McNabb turned in a terrific game at the plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs score.  Molinar went 2-for-3 with two runs score.
