FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (8-13, 5-5 RRAC) had its four-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday. The Bacone College Warriors (12-8, 5-4) topped the Lady Rams 68-56.
The Rams opened the game with a 9-4 lead, but Bacone responded with 14 unanswered points to take control at 18-9 midway through the period. The Warriors stretched that lead to 14 at 30-16 on their way to a 37-25 halftime lead.
Bacone started the second half with a 10-2 run to open a 47-28 lead just three minutes into the period. The Rams used seven unanswered points to pull within 11 at 53-42 with just under eight minutes to play and later cut the margin to 10 with a Nastassia Brown layup, but never could get the margin down to single digits.
The Rams out shot the Warriors 46%-43%, but committed 21 turnovers.
Nastassia Brown’s 20 points led all scorers. Christina Haywood finished with eight points for the Lady Rams. Jessica Jenkins led three Warriors in double-digit scoring with 17 points.
Texas Wesleyan returns to the Sid Richardson Center on Saturday, when they host Southwestern Assemblies of God University. That game is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off. |
