ABILENE, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University Softball team (1-7) split a doubleheader at Hardin-Simmons University (1-1) on Friday. The Cowgirls took game-one 10-9 in eight innings, but Texas Wesleyan came back to take a convincing 15-2 win in game two.
In the third inning of game one, Lindsay Molinar tied the game with her first career home run. Ariel Raley later scored on a wild pitch to put the Rams on top 2-1. Texas Wesleyan added a run on an RBI single from Rachel Hampton in the fourth, but Hardin-Simmons plated eight runs in the bottom of the inning.
The Rams got back in the game in the sixth with an RBI single from Brooke Mcnabb, a two-run homer from Raley, and an RBI double from Tara Sharp.
Trailing 9-7 in the top of the seventh, Alyssa Cherry led off with a single and later scored on a wild pitch. McNabb then tied the game with an RBI single that plated Angel Castro.
The Rams sent a runner to third in the eight but could not score, and HSU plated the game winner in the bottom of the frame.
Alicia Mendoza (0-2) took the loss after allowing an unearned run on two hits in 2.2 innings of work. McNabb went 4-for-4 at the plate for Texas Wesleyan while Hampton added three hits.
Game two was all Texas Wesleyan. The Rams scored two in the first, four in the second, four in the fourth, and five in the fifth while HSU managed just two in the first. The Rams out hit the cowgirls 15-7.
Raley, Hampton, and Sharp each knocked in five runs. Raley went 3-for-4 with a triple, a home run, and three runs scored. Hampton went 4-for-4 with two doubles, a home run, and three runs scored, and Sharp went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, and a run scored.
Sharp (1-2) earned the complete game win after allowing two runs on seven hits.
The Lady Rams will return to action on Friday, February 23, when they take part in the Henderson State University Tournament in Arkadelphia, AR. |
