FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (9-13, 6-5 RRAC) knocked off Southwestern Assemblies of God University (4-14, 1-11) 54-46 in the Sid Richardson Center on Saturday.
The game was close in the first half, but a 6-0 run midway through the period led the Lady Rams to a 27-20 halftime lead.
Texas Wesleyan’s lead remained seven points at 34-27, when the Lady Rams took over. Brittany Champion started and finished 8-0 run that stretched the lead to 43-27 with just under ten minutes to play.
SAGU cut the gap to single digits on several occasions, but the Rams were able to hold on for the 54-46 win.
The Lions out shot the Rams 40%-33% and won the battle of the boards 41-32, but Texas Wesleyan’s pressure defense forced 27 turnovers that led to 23 points for the Rams.
Nastassia Brown finished with a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Moneke Smallwood added nine points for the Rams. SAGU’s Evelyn Johnson led all scorers with 21 points.
The Lady Rams return to the court on Monday, when they take on Paul Quinn College in Dallas, TX. That game is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. |
