LADY RAMS TAKE 64-60 WIN
February 14, 2007

Box Score

FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (10-14, 7-6) edged Huston-Tillotson University (9-15, 7-5) 64-60 in the Sid Richardson Center on Wednesday.

In the first half, the Lady Rams hit just eight field goals while H-TU went 6-12 from beyond the arc.  That translated into a 37-28 halftime lead for Huston-Tillotson.

In the second half, the Lady Rams shut down Huston-Tillotson’s three-point attack and worked their way back into the ballgame.  Five minutes into the second half, Kim Gatlin knocked down a pair of threes and Nastassia Brown completed an old-fashioned three-point play to give Texas Wesleyan its first lead at 44-42.

A three from Monique Perry swung the game back to Huston-Tillotson at 47-46, but Christina Haywood tied the game with a free throw and Sheleatha Simmons put the Rams back on top, 49-47, with a 15-foot jump shot.

Amanda Walker brought Huston-Tillotson within a point at 61-60 when she hit one-of-two at the line with 48 seconds to play.  Moneke Smallwood then made one of two to open the door for Huston-Tillotson, but Ashley Taylor missed a shot to tie the game with five seconds to go, and Christina Haywood iced the game with a pair of clutch free throws with two seconds on the clock.

The Rams won the battle-of-the-boards 45-39 and forced 30 Huston-Tillotson turnovers.

Nastassia Brown led the way with 11 points while playing just 15 minutes due to foul trouble.  Haywood scored nine points on 9-10 shooting from the line and brought down eight rebounds.  H-TU’s Ashley Taylor led all scorers with 26 points.

The Lady Rams return to action on Saturday when they take on #21 Houston Baptist in Houston, TX.  That game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
