AUSTIN, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (11-15, 8-7 RRAC) took a 73-63 win at Huston-Tillotson University (10-17, 8-7) on Monday.

Texas Wesleyan opened the game on a 7-2 run and led by as many as seven before H-TU rattled off ten unanswered points to lead 18-15.  H-TU led by as many as seven, 29-22, but a three from Kim Gatlin tied the score at 29 with just over two minutes to play, and the teams went to the locker room deadlocked at 31.

The game reached its ninth tie, 49-49, midway through the second half, and was later tied at 55 and 57 before the Rams took control in the final minutes.  Christina Haywood gave Texas Wesleyan the lead for good (59-57) when she scored off an assist from Nastassia Brown with 5:17 to play.

A steal and a layup from Kim Gatlin stretched the lead to four at 61-59.  H-TU trailed by three 63-60 with 2:37 to play, but Texas Wesleyan closed the game on an 8-1 run.

For the game, Texas Wesleyan out shot H-TU 39%-31% and won the battle of the boards 48-43.

Brown led all scorers with 19 points to go with 10 rebounds.  Kim Gatlin added 16 for the Rams and Haywood finished with 10.  H-TU was led by Monique Perry’s 15 points.
