February 23, 2007

Box Score - Game One

Box Score - Game Two

Box Score - Game Three

ARKADELPHIA, AR:  The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (2-9) won it’s final of three contests at the Henderson State University Tournament on Friday.  The Lady Rams fell 3-0 to the University of Arkansas-Monticello and 5-2 to Southern Arkansas University, but won their third contest against Ouachita Baptist University, 3-0, on the strength of seven shutout innings from freshman Ashley Oldham.

In the first game of the day, Arkansas-Monticello plated three runs in the first inning.  A leadoff homerun from Meredith Heckel, singles from Sarah Reed and Becca Tipton and a double from Jenny Dunn provided all three of the game’s runs.

The Lady Rams out hit the Cotton Blossoms 8-5, and were led by a 3-for-3 day from Alyssa Cherry and two hits from Elizabeth Brady.  The Rams threatened in the fifth sixth and seventh but could not push a run across.

Michelle Jones fell to 0-3 on the season after allowing three runs on five hits while striking out four in six innings.

Against Southern Arkansas, the Lady Muleriders scored one run in the first and a two-run homer from Tisha Thompson highlighted a four run second inning.

The Rams could not overcome that five-run deficit.  Texas Wesleyan plated one in the third.  Jazmine Boss drew a leadoff walk in the sixth, stole second and third and scored on a single from Ariel Raley for the 5-2 final.

Alicia Mendoza (0-3) took the loss after allowing five runs on five hits in 1.2 innings of work.  Ashley Oldham shutdown the Muleriders for the final 4.1 innings.

Oldham carried her momentum against the Muleriders into the game against the Ouachita Baptist Tigers.  Oldham (1-1) finished an outstanding day by working the complete game shutout.  A freshman from Watauga, TX, she allowed just four hits while striking out four in seven innings.

Texas Wesleyan got two runs in the third with singles from Elizabeth Brady, Lindsey Molinar, and Ariel Raley.  They added another in the third with singles from Tara Sharp and Jazmine Boss.

Saturday’s game scheduled against Henderson State has been cancelled due to the impending inclement weather.

The Lady Rams will return to action Tuesday, February 27, when they travel to Durant, OK, to take on Southeastern Oklahoma State University.  Game one of that doubleheader is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. first pitch.
