HOUSTON, TX: The ninth ranked Houston Baptist University softball team (14-2, 4-0 RRAC) swept a doubleheader from Texas Wesleyan University (3-14, 0-2) in the Lady Rams conference opener on Saturday. The Huskies took game one 6-0 and game two 3-1.
In game one, Ashley Oldham (2-2) shut the Huskies down for four innings, but the Huskies sent 11 batters to the plate and scored six runs in the fifth.
Meanwhile Ceri Wood (8-0) tossed a complete game one-hitter.
Lindsey Molinar led-off game two with a walk. She then stole second, advanced to third on a grounder from Brooke McNabb and scored on a grounder from Ariel Raley.
In the bottom of the second, the Huskies got two runners on and scored both on three wild pitches. HBU added a third run in the third inning. The Lady Rams got runners to second in the fourth and fifth innings, but could not push another run across.
Kristi Malpass (6-2) allowed one run on four hits to get the win. Alicia Mendoza (0-6) suffered the loss after allowing three runs on five hits in six innings pitched.
Mendoza led the Lady Rams with a 2-for-2 day at the plate.
The Lady Rams return to the field on Tuesday when they host Park University. Game one of that doubleheader is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. |
