FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (5-16, 0-4 RRAC) was swept in a doubleheader against Northwood University (14-8, 2-0) on Sunday.  The Knights took game one 5-3, and game two 4-2.

In game one, The Knights took a 2-0 lead in the first inning with solo homers from Paula Davis and Alex Mesa.  Lindsey Molinar led off the bottom of the frame with a double to left center.  The Rams then used an RBI single from Rachel Hampton and a Northwood error to tie the game two.

Doubles from Katie Pfannerstill and Angel Gorrell gave Northwood a 3-2 lead in the second inning, but Alicia Mendoza led off the bottom of the fourth with her first home run of the year to tie the game at three.

Northwood scored one in the fifth and one in the seventh.  The Rams put two runners on base in the sixth and seventh, but could not score.

Michelle Jones (1-5) took the loss after allowing four runs on five hits and six walks in five innings pitched.  Kayla Maddox (4-2) allowed three runs on eight hits while striking out five in seven innings to pick up the win.

In game two, Molinar drew a leadoff walk, stole second and scored on a single from Ariel Raley.  Tara Sharp made it 2-0 when she cracked her third home run of the season in the bottom of the second.

After scoring their first run in the fourth, the Knight’s Gertrude Jeffries tied the game with an RBI double in the fifth.  Northwood took the lead after scoring two runs on five consecutive hits in the sixth.

Ashley Oldham (3-3) was tagged with the loss after allowing four runs on nine hits in 5.2 innings of work. Ashley Westernmen (8-3) earned the win after allowing two runs on four hits in seven innings.

Texas Wesleyan will return to the field on Wednesday, when they host Dordt College.  That doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
