FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team lost a member of its family this morning when Charles Stone passed away. Charles served as the Lady Rams’ volunteer pitching coach last season and was the father of standout first baseman and pitcher Marie Stone who graduated last year.
In her second season with the Lady Rams, Stone was named Red River Athletic Conference Co-Player of the Year and was a 1st-team All-Region VI selection after hitting .430 with 14 home runs, 39 RBI, and 54 runs scored.
In her career, Stone hit .395 with 23 home runs, and is the school’s career record holder with a .481 OBP. She also posted eight wins and a 2.29 ERA with 87 strikeouts in 79.2 innings pitched.
Texas Wesleyan will miss Charles’ presence, and head coach Shannon Gower decided to retire his daughter’s jersey in his memory. |
