FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s golf team entered today’s final round action at the UST Texas Intercollegiate at Hawks Creek Golf Course in a tie for the lead with Wayland Baptist University. The Rams held par on the day, but the Pioneers fired an outstanding nine-under 279 to win the tournament.
Oklahoma City’s Jacques Blaauw and Wayland Baptist’s J.J. Brumley both shot the low round of the tournament, 66, on Tuesday, but Blaauw held off Brumley for the individual championship with a 36-hole score of 138.
Berry College finished third, five strokes behind the Rams at 579. Oklahoma City University’s varsity squad shot the low round of the tournament, 278, on Tuesday to move from tenth to fourth.
Texas Wesleyan’s Kevin Doskocil finished tied for third (70, 71-141) while Mitch Hendon tied for seventh, just one shot back (69, 73-142). Ryan Stephens finished tied for 13th (72, 72-144), Justin Smith tied for 21st (75, 72-147), and Will Woodring tied for 33rd (75, 74-149) to round out the Rams scores.
Texas Wesleyan’s junior varsity squad finished in a three-way tie with UT-Brownsville and Lubbock Christian for the 13th position. Dan Hahn tied for 18th (71, 75-146), Drew Koonce tied for 63rd (75, 80-155), Kyle Finkler tied for 74th (82, 76-158), Johnathan Dickerson finished 83rd (79, 87-166), and Michael Clements (89, 80-169) for Texas Wesleyan.
The Rams will return to action in next week’s Sleep Inn & Suites Classic. Oklahoma Christian University will host that even Monday and Tuesday at River Oaks Country Club in Oklahoma City, OK.
