FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University Baseball team (17-4) moved from 22nd to 10th in the latest NAIA National Poll.
The red-hot Rams have gone 5-2 since the last poll on March 9. Lewis & Clark State (19-1) remained in the top spot, while Region VI foe Oklahoma City (29-5) remained in the number two spot.
The Rams have been led by the bats of two-time RRAC Player of the Week recipient Josh Vander Hey who is hitting a team best .471 (32-68) and Jason Diaz who is hitting .424 (28-66) and has stolen 12 bases in 12 attempts.
On the mound, the Rams have featured a plethora of talent. Ryan Riddle, Weston Wood, and Caleb Thomas are a combined 10-1 with 71 strikeouts in 72 innings. Meanwhile Hayden Lackey has headed up a strong bullpen by setting a school record with seven saves while posting a 1.06 ERA and holding opponents to a .133 batting average. Lackey’s next appearance will tie him with David Hinson (’05) for the school’s career record of 56 appearances.
