FORT WORTH, TX: Texas Wesleyan University’s Tara Sharp was named Red River Athletic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for the period of March 19-25. Her teammate, Maddie Williams, was named RRAC and NAIA Region VI Player of the Week for the same period.
Williams, a junior catcher from Frisco, TX, had a stellar week with nine RBI as the Lady Rams went 5-1 in that stretch. She opened the week by going 2-for-3 with a homer and three RBI to knock off Dordt College (Iowa), 10-5. Williams also started a double-header against Bacone College (Okla.) strong with a 2-for-4 outing at the plate including a home run and four RBI. She closed the week by going 0-for-1 against Langston University (OK) with three walks and three runs scored. In all, she scored nine runs last week and, after starting the season 1-for-8, she raised her batting average to .375 by going 8-for-16 at the plate.
Sharp, a senior pitcher from Lake Worth, TX, captured two of the Lady Rams’ five victories last week by allowing just five hits in two games. She threw a three-hitter with four strikeouts to defeat Dordt, 9-1, and backed it up with a two-hitter with eight strikeouts to drop Langston. Sharp allowed only two earned runs in 10 innings of work.
Sharp shared the award with Houston Baptist’s Cheri Wood who went 4-1 with a 1.40 ERA.
The Lady Rams have improved to 10-17 overall this season and 3-5 in conference play after winning seven of their last ten games. |
