FORT WORTH, TX: Texas Wesleyan University’s Chris Palmer has been selected as the Red River Athletic Conference’s Baseball Player of the Week for the period of March 26-April 1. Palmer shared the award with Scott Tompkins of Bacone College.
Palmer, a senior designated hitter from Sioux Falls, SD, powered eighth ranked Texas Wesleyan to a three-game sweep over the weekend against conference rival College of the Southwest (NM) with three homers and 11 RBIs. He had at least two hits and one homer in each game and started the series by going 2-for-2 with a grand slam and a single in the eighth inning of a 19-4 win. In the opening game of a doubleheader on Saturday, Palmer drove in four runs in an 18-3 victory with a double and a three-run homer in a 2-for-4 outing. In a 4-1 win in the series finale, his three-run homer proved to be the difference in the game. Palmer scored four runs and was 6-for-10 at the plate on the week as the Rams pushed their record to 6-0 in conference play and 23-4 on the season.
Tompkins hit .750 (9-for-12) with 10 RBI as his Warriors swept Paul Quinn College in a conference series.
