Box Score
FORT WORTH, TX: The eighth ranked Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (24-5) had its eight-game winning streak halted on Wednesday. Loyola University’s (13-24) Andrew Laiche allowed just two hits in 8.1 innings to lead his Wolfpack past the Rams 1-0 at LaGrave Field.
Laiche stuck out just two Rams, but recorded 14 fly ball outs in the game.
The game’s lone run was scored when Loyola’s Jerry Campos delivered a two out single that plated Josh Borges in the second inning.
The Rams bullpen was outstanding in the loss. Jayson Rachuig allowed two hits in two innings of work. Lary Vela retired all six hitters he faced, and Hayden Lackey lowered his season ERA to 0.81 with a scoreless ninth.
Taylor Miller and Ross Elmore were the only Rams to record hits against Laiche who allowed just one base runner as far as third base. Laiche also stopped Josh Vander Hey’s 15-game hitting streak. Vander Hey has now hit safely in all but three games this season.
Landon Newton (1-2) took the loss after allowing one run on six hits in four innings pitched.
The Rams return to action this weekend with a three-game Red River Athletic Conference series against Northwood. The first game of the series will be played in Cedar Hill at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Saturday’s doubleheader is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. at LaGrave Field.
