DENTON, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (10-23) dropped both ends of a doubleheader against Texas Woman’s University (14-27) on Wednesday.  The Pioneers took game one 5-1 and game two 10-4.

In game one, the Pioneers got single runs in the first and second innings, and took a 4-0 lead with a two-run homer from Mary Tomlinson in the fourth.

The Rams got on the board with a sac fly from Rachel Bachelder in the fifth, but Texas Woman’s added an RBI single from Tiffanie Boone in the sixth to cap the scoring.

Ashley Oldham (5-6) allowed four runs, two earned, on seven hits in four innings pitched.

Game two was much closer than the 10-4 final score would indicate.  Texas Woman’s led 4-0 after plating one in the first and three in the third.  The Rams chipped into that lead in the fourth when Tara Sharp led off with a double and scored on a single from Maddie Williams.

In the top of the sixth, the Lady Rams took advantage of a Pioneer error and tied the game with a two-run single from Elizabeth Brady and a pinch-hit RBI double from Rachel Hampton.  However, in the bottom of the sixth, Texas Woman’s took advantage of two Lady Ram errors to score six runs (only one of them earned) as they ran away with the 10-4 win.

Alicia Mendoza (0-8) allowed 10 runs, four earned, on ten hits in 5.2 innings of work.  Lindsey Molinar and Maddie Williams each had a pair of hits for Texas Wesleyan while Elizabeth Brady added a pair of RBI.
