CEDAR HILL, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (25-5, 7-0 RRAC) won the first game of a three-game Red River Athletic Conference set with Northwood University (12-22, 2-2) on Friday. The Rams pounded out 15 hits and topped the Knight’s 10-2.
The Rams started hot, plating five runs in a first inning that was highlighted by a two-out two-run double from Taylor Miller. An RBI double from Daren Butler made it 5-1 after two innings, but Texas Wesleyan stretched its lead to 8-1 with an RBI single from Jason Diaz and a two-run single from Billie Hicks in the fifth inning.
That was plenty of support for Weston Wood (5-0) who went seven innings and allowed one run on two hits while striking out four.
The Rams got an RBI single from Miller and a sac fly from Ben Kliever in the ninth. Meanwhile Larry Vela closed out the game with two innings of work, allowing one run on two hits.
Billie Hicks led the way with a 4-for-4 day with three RBI at the plate. Ryan Jocobi went 2-for-4, and Taylor Miller went 2-for-3 with three RBI.
The Rams and Knights are scheduled to complete their series with a doubleheader at LaGrave Field on Saturday. Game one is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. first pitch. |
