LADY RAMS SPLIT AT CSW
April 14, 2007

Box Score - Game One

Box Score - Game Two

HOBBS, NM:  The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (13-28, 6-10 RRAC) split a thrilling Red River Athletic Conference doubleheader at College of the Southwest on Saturday.  The Lady Rams came back to tie game one at three in the seventh only to fall 4-3, and then rebounded to take game two by a score of 4-3.

In game one, the Rams scored single runs in the first and second, but CSW took advantage of a Lady Rams miscue to plate a run in the fifth.  The Mustangs plated two in the sixth, again capitalizing on a Texas Wesleyan error.

In the top of the seventh, Rachel Hampton led off with a single.  Hampton advanced to third on a double by Angel Castro.  Rachel Bachelder drew a walk to load the bases and Lindsey Molinar tied the game at three with an RBI ground out.  However, the Mustangs were able to get that run back in the bottom of the seventh to take the game 4-3.

Alicia Mendoza (0-9) suffered the loss after surrendering a run on just two hits in 1.1 innings of relief.  Castro and Ariel Raley both went 2-for-3 for the Rams.

In game two, the Rams scored in the first, but CSW made it 3-1 in the bottom of the first.  After plating a run in the third inning, Texas Wesleyan’s Elizabeth Brady led off the fourth with a single and tied the game when she score on a single by Raley.

In the fifth, Angel Castro doubled and advanced to third on a passed ball.  Tara Sharp then drove in Castro with a sacrifice fly.

Michelle Jones (4-9) settled down after the first and shutout the Mustangs the rest of the way.  Jones allowed three runs on four hits while striking out four in a complete game performance.

Hampton and Brady both went 3-for-4 at the plate while Ariel Raley added two hits for the Lady Rams.

The Lady Rams return to action on Monday when they host Texas College at Sycamore Park.  Game one is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
