FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (15-28, 8-10) swept a doubleheader from Texas College (3-14-1, 2-10) at Sycamore Park on Monday. The Lady Rams took game on 3-0 and game two 9-1.
In game one, the Lady Rams started the fourth inning with three consecutive singles from Ariel Raley, Rachel Hampton, and Elizabeth Brady to take a 2-0 lead. They added an insurance run in the sixth when Maddie Williams drove in Raley with a single up the middle.
Tara Sharp shut down the Steers throughout the game. Sharp improved to 6-2 on the season after allowing just three hits and striking out four in a complete game shutout.
Raley and Hampton led the Lady Rams at the plate with two hits apiece.
Texas Wesleyan took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game two when Rachel Bachelder singled, stole second, and scored on a base hit from Hampton.
Bachelder scored again in the third when she drew a leadoff walk, stole second, and later stole home. The Lady Rams added RBI singles from Maddie Williams and Tara Sharp and an RBI double from Brooke McNabb in the third to bring the score to 5-0.
A solo homer from Maddie Williams made it 6-0 in the fifth before the Steers plated an unearned run in the sixth.
The Rams ended the game in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI double from Raley and a two-run game-ending homer from Rachel Hampton.
Ashley Oldham (6-8) earned the win after allowing one unearned run on five hits in six innings pitched.
Hampton finished a solid day at the plate by going 2-for-3 with three RBI. Raley added two more hits and McNabb went 3-for-3.
The Lady Rams return to the field on Friday, when they host College of the Southwest. Game one of that doubleheader is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start. |
