JONES TOSSES NO-HITTER ON SENIOR DAY
April 20, 2007

Box Score - Game One

Box Score - Game Two

FORT WORTH, TX:  Michelle Jones, a senior out of Arlington, TX, had a storybook afternoon at Sycamore Park.  On Senior Day, Jones tossed a no-hitter as Texas Wesleyan (17-28, 10-10 RRAC) took game two of a doubleheader from College of the Southwest (21-13, 14-8) by a score of 7-0.  The Rams also prevailed 4-3 in game one.

Between games, the Lady Rams honored three seniors for their outstanding contributions to the Lady Rams Softball program.  Rachel Hampton and Tara Sharp are two of the most prolific power hitters in Texas Wesleyan history, ranking first and second in both doubles and homeruns.  Hampton holds those records with 33 homeruns and 39 doubles.  She also holds the school’s career mark with 144 RBI and set a new school record on Friday by playing in her 194th and 195th games.  Meanwhile Jones has headed up this year’s pitching staff, making 16 starts and striking out a team-high 66.

In game two, Maddie Williams gave the Rams a 1-0 lead with a leadoff homer to centerfield in the third inning.  That was all the support that Jones would need.  She allowed just three base runners, giving up a walk in the second and a walk and an error in the third.

The Rams later got a bases clearing single from Brooke McNabb to make it 4-0 in the fifth inning.  A sacrifice fly from Alicia Mendoza and Rachel Bachelder’s first career homer, a two-run shot, made it 7-0 in the sixth.

Jones (5-9) allowed just two walks and struck out two.  She faced 23 hitters and recorded eight fly outs and ten ground ball outs, while the defense turned one double-play behind her.  Williams led the Rams at the plate with a pair of hits while Bachelder and McNabb each drove in a pair.

In game one, the Lady Rams turned a walk to Brooke McNabb and singles from Ariel Raley and Elizabeth Brady into a run in the first inning.  The Mustangs tied the game at one in the third inning when Katie Harrison scored from first base on a two-out double from Ashley Turner.

Ariel Raley gave the Rams the lead again in the bottom of the third with a solo shot to left field.  However CSW’s Ruby Garza tied the game with a solo homer in the fifth inning.  In the same inning, Katie Harrison singled, stole second and came all the way around to score the go ahead run when the throw went into centerfield.

In the bottom of the sixth, Hampton drew a leadoff walk and Brady followed with a single up the middle.  An error by the Mustang’s catcher plated the tying run before Alicia Mendoza delivered an RBI single to put the Rams on top 4-3.

Ashley Oldham improved to 7-8 by tossing seven innings and allowing two earned runs on six hits while striking out five.  Raley, Brady, and Angel Castro each collected two hits for Texas Wesleyan.

The Rams return to action on Monday, when they travel to Tyler, TX, to take on Texas College.  Game one of that doubleheader is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
