TWU PLACES 2nd IN RRAC ALL-SPORTS AWARD
May 17, 2007

FORT WORTH, TX:  The Red River Athletic Conference has announced the final standings for the RRAC All-Sports Award.  For the second consecutive year Texas Wesleyan University posted a runner-up finish.  The award is given annually to the RRAC member institution that performed best across the conference’s sponsored sports in an academic year. Points were awarded to the top five teams in each sport and point totals for each school are determined as an average across the number of sports in which each school competes.

Texas Wesleyan and Houston Baptist were the only schools to score in each of their sponsored sports.  Both schools tallied 26 points however, HBU’s 3.71 points per sport just edged Texas Wesleyan’s 3.25 points per sport.

The Rams won their first RRAC title in baseball while taking a fourth consecutive men’s golf title.  They also won a second straight title in women’s soccer.  However, soccer and basketball are judged on regular season finishes, and the Lady Rams soccer program placed second in the regular season.  Texas Wesleyan placed third in softball and men’s soccer while finishing fourth in men’s basketball and fifth in women’s basketball.

The Huskies won their eighth straight All-Sports Award by taking conference titles in softball, volleyball, and men’s basketball.

Any RRAC-sanctioned sport with four or more teams and an official conference championship qualifies for the All-Sports totals. Sports with official conference champions include women's cross country, men's and women's soccer, women's volleyball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's outdoor track and field, men's golf, baseball and softball.
