RAMS MAKE 46th APPEARANCE AT NAIA NATIONAL TOURNAMENT
May 21, 2007

FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University men’s golf team is set to begin play in the 56th annual NAIA National Tournament tomorrow at Plymouth, Indiana’s Indiana National Golf Club.  Of the 32 teams in the field, none have a history as rich as the Rams.

The Rams will be making their 46th appearance in the tournament in 53 years of NAIA membership.  In their previous 45 trips to the National Tournament, they finished outside of the top-ten on just two occasions.  Texas Wesleyan boasts more individual champions, nine, than any other school.  As a team, they also share the record of six titles with Huntingdon College.  In addition to their six titles, they have posted eight runner-up finishes and 33 top-five’s.

The Rams will tee-off in the first of four rounds at 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday.  Fans can follow all the action through Texas Wesleyan’s website (www.ramsports.net) where they can find links to the tournament website as well as live scoring.

After a slow start this season, the Rams rallied down the stretch this spring and enter the tournament ranked 9th nationally.  They are coming off a their best performance of the year in the NAIA Region VI Tournament which was held concurrently with the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament at Rose Creek Golf Course in Oklahoma City, OK.  The Rams finished 3rd in a region that features five teams ranked in the nation’s top-12.  They were just four strokes behind top-ranked Oklahoma Christian University while winning their fourth consecutive RRAC title.

Ryan Stephens, a senior from Lakewood, CO, leads the Rams into the national tournament.  Stephens has been the Rams’ most consistent performer after appearing in all 10 varsity events this season.  He led the team on four occasions, and posting a team best 73.6 scoring average.

Mitch Hendon, a junior from Burleson, TX, and Kevin Doskocil, a sophomore from Hillsboro, TX, each appeared in nine events this season.  Together, they have posted five top-10’s.  Hendon ranks second on the team with a 74.1 stroke average while Doskocil is third at 74.3.

Dan Hah, a senior from Denver, CO, made five varsity events this season and played his best golf of the year when he led the team with a fifth place finish in the Region VI Tournament while taking 2nd in the RRAC.

Will Woodring, a senior from Burleson, TX, rounds out the Rams card.  He appeared in six events this season and led the team to an 8th place finish at the Grand Canyon Fall Invitational at Etrella Mountain Ranch by shooting two over par 218.
