PLYMOUTH, IN: After a disappointing opening round at the 56th annual NAIA Men’s Golf National Championship, Texas Wesleyan University began to make up some ground on Wednesday. The Rams shot 299 on a windy afternoon at Indiana National Golf Club and moved up three spots on the leader board to 13th.
Mitch Hendon birdied nine and fourteen to shoot even par on the day. Kevin Doskocil improved on a tough first round to turn in a card of 74, while Ryan Stephens shot 75. Dan Hahn shot 78, and Will Woodring finished at 80 for the Rams.
Windy conditions affected scores in the afternoon. Texas Wesleyan was one of just five schools with an afternoon tee-time to break 300, and the Rams moved to 13th in the field of 32 with an overall score of 602.
Fellow Region VI teams still occupy the top three positions. Top ranked Oklahoma City is at five-under par, 571, while Northwood moved to second 12 shots behind the Stars. Wayland Baptist is in third place at 585. Second ranked Oklahoma Christian shot 307 on the day and fell from second to seventh at 594.
The Rams will continue with third round action on Thursday. Fans can continue to track their performance through Texas Wesleyan’s website (www.ramsports.net) where they can find links to live scoring as well as the tournament website.
