PLYMOUTH, IN: Windy conditions at Indiana National Golf Club continued to plague the Texas Wesleyan University men’s golf team on Thursday in the 56th annual NAIA National Championship. However, by scratching out a round of 310, the Rams kept alive a string of 46 appearances in the tournament without missing a cut.
After three rounds the field of 32 was cut to the top 17 scores including any ties. With an overall score of 912 the Rams are in a three-way tie for 16th with Lee University and Bethel College. In 53 years of membership in the NAIA, the Rams have appeared in the Men’s Golf National Championship 46 times and have never missed a cut.
Ryan Stephens and Will Woording both shot 77 to lead the rams in round three. Mitch Hendon and Dan Hahn finished 78, while Kevin Doskocil shot 83.
Hendon and Stephens have both had strong performances through three rounds. Hendon’s overall 223 puts him in a tie for 17th among 144 individuals. Stephens is tied for 25th at 224.
Oklahoma City continues to lead the field at 875, although Wayland Baptist gained six shots on the Stars to sit in second at 883. Oklahoma Christian moved from seventh to third (891) while Northwood fell from second to sixth (895).
