May 25, 2007

PLYMOUTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University men’s golf play completed the fourth and final round of the 56th annual NAIA Men’s Golf National Championship at Indiana National Golf Club on Friday.  The Rams shot a final round of 312 and finished 18th overall.

Mitch Hendon’s 76 led the Rams on Friday.  Ryan Stephens carded a round of 77, while Kevin Doskocil birdied three of his last seven holes to finish at 79.  Dan Hahn and Will Woodring both shot 80 in the final round.

Oklahoma City shot the lowest round of the tournament, nine-under par 279, to run away with their sixth title in the last seven years.  With their sixth championship, the Stars tied Texas Wesleyan and Huntingdon College for the NAIA record.

Three fellow Region VI teams finished in the top-10.  Wayland Baptist finished second and Oklahoma Christian finished third.  Northwood just missed the top-10 with an 11th place finish.

The Star’s Daniel Mitchell entered the final round in third place, but won the individual title after shooting a final round 67 and moving to six-under par, 282, for the tournament.

Hendon finished tied for 28th at 299.  Ryan Stephens finished tied for 37th at 301 through four rounds.

The Rams were making their 46th appearance in the national championship in 53 years of NAIA membership.  Texas Wesleyan kept alive a string of 46 consecutive tournaments without missing a cut.
