FORT WORTH, TX: After reaching the NAIA national tournament for the 46th time, the Texas Wesleyan University men’s golf team has brought home more postseason hardware. Four Rams were selected to the All-American team while two Rams earned 2007 Daktronics-NAIA Men’s Golf Scholar Athlete recognition.
Mitch Hendon, a junior from Burleson, TX, was named 2nd-team All-American while also earning All-American Scholar Athlete honors. The NAIA Scholar Athlete award is available only to juniors or seniors who maintain at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA while excelling in their sport. Hendon appeared in 10 varsity events for the Rams. He posted a pair of top-10 finishes and a scoring average of 74.2. In the NAIA National Championships he took 28th place with an overall score of 299.
Ryan Stephens, a senior from Lakewood, CO, and Kevin Doskocil, a sophomore from Hillsboro, TX, were also named 2nd-team All-American. Stephens played in all 11 varsity events this season. He led the team with a 73.8 scoring average and four top-10 finishes. Doskocil played in 10 tournaments and earned three top-10’s. He posted a season scoring average of 74.9.
Dan Hahn, a senior from Denver, CO, played in six tournaments and posted a 76.6 scoring average. He played his best golf of the year when he finished 2nd in the Red River Athletic Conference and 5th in the Region VI tournament.
Justin Smith, a senior from Runaway Bay, TX, earned NAIA Scholar Athlete recognition for the second time. Smith played in seven tournaments and had a season scoring average of 76.7.
This season, the Rams made their 46th appearance in the NAIA National Championships in 53 years of membership. They maintained a streak of 46 consecutive appearances without missing the cut, and finished 18th a the 2007 National Championship at Indiana National Golf Course.
